Sometimes it's hard to live near Boulder. There are so many choices, so many things you could do that sometimes you wake up in the morning and are paralyzed by the sheer number of possibilities....Do you grab your trad rack for an adventure on the walls of Eldorado Canyon? Or take quickdraws and clip bolts up Clear Creek canyon. Maybe your bike is calling you to take a ride up in the hills, or the springtime runoff reminds you of that stretch of the Colorado River you've been wanting to try.
It helps to have something to focus your energy...something that draws you, holds you and keeps you coming back for more....something that drowns out the other possibilities...you need a project.
My project is simple:
Climb every route on Long's Peak.
Yep, every one...from the trade routes to the obscure 1950s climbs. From rock to snow to ice. My plan is to hone my alpine skills by learning this mountain from front to back. Sounds fun eh?
I have no idea how long this will take me...nor if I will ever actually complete this goal. But I'm sure as hell bound to have some interesting experiences along the way!
My plan is to start off with some recon missions to study the approach and descent routes so I can get in and out easily. Then move on from there. Winter is coming on soon and I will have plenty of time to bone up on the guidebooks and maps while waiting for conditions to stabilize. Then again, maybe the Notch will be in soon...
